Teaching and Research Areas
Public relations, persuasion, argumentation and debate

"My teaching and research interests focus on rhetorical studies, especially rhetorical theory. Closely allied to my rhetorical background is my interest in public relations. My involvement in persuasion, argumentation, and debate as well as years of extensive consulting experience direct me toward continuing investigations of issue management, corporate advocacy, and media relations. Additionally, I maintain interests in interpersonal and small group studies. I appreciate research in a variety of situations but I become uncomfortable with studies encompassing an extended examination of behavior which is somehow eventually called communication behavior in the last paragraph of the conclusion."
