There are many opportunities in communication professions. Public relations, employee communication, public information, promotions and communication management are a few examples. A background in communication also can prepare you for a wide variety of other careers in which communication plays a critical role.  For example, management, human resources, fundraising, nonprofit administration, events management, sales, law and politics all rely on a foundation of effective communication.

The Department of Communication maintains an extensive list of alumni and other professional contacts. These people return to camps frequently to conduct workshops, speak to classes, and network with students. The department also hosts annual events to bring students and alumni together.

Each fall, usually the third week in September, the department sponsors COM Week, a multi-day event that spotlights career and professional opportunities for Communication students. Formats vary from year to year, but typically COM Week includes features such as panel discussions with alumni and other professionals, workshops on career-related topics, professional networking opportunities, "master classes" with communication professionals, and guest speakers.
